TEQ Impressions

How to motivate a TEQnologist

On Oct 20, 2016

We’ve all seen them – the stunning photos of soaring eagles, mountains and fall foliage with bold captions such as:  “Teamwork”,” Focus” and “Persistence”. Becoming popular in the early 90’s with the launch of Successories, this wall art became a staple in many corporations. The art was displayed proudly in break rooms and hallways. The mission was to drive employees to achieve more or think differently about the things they do. Of course, there is some debate on whether posters like these truly inspire employees, which is why we decided to take a slightly different approach.

At TEQ our motivational posters are photographs of actual products that our team helped create – and that make an enormous difference in people’s lives.

Take, for instance, the posters we have displayed highlighting the sterile packaging we provide for Thoratec’s HeartMateII LVAD – a product that truly has changed lives by helping patients participate in everyday activities that many of us take for granted – such as riding a bike, dancing, mowing the lawn or simply walking up a flight of stairs.

Before teaming up with us, Thoratec was experiencing quality issues such as warped flanges, thin spots and inclusions – all of which resulted in the rejection of multiple lots of packaging. Additionally, because the sterile package consists of three parts mated together, Thoratec faced the additional challenge of requiring parts from different lots to be interchangeable in order to create the final package.

To resolve these issues, TEQ created a custom tool with state of the art plug assist material, special coating, heated cut dies and a special mold finish for better release of snaps. The existing tool was also converted from male to female for better sealing and flange thickness distribution, and a superior monitoring process was put in place. With a marked increase of quality in the form, fit and function of the HeartMate sterile packaging system (uniform flanges, good sealing characteristics, and good material distribution from cavity-to-cavity and production lot-to-production lot), we are happy to share that since working with TEQ, Thoratec has reported a dramatic decrease in quality issues. In fact, our Thoratec solution was so exceptional that it has earned TEQ the Silver Award in the SPE Thermoforming Division Parts Competition.

Stories such as these are what truly motivates our team, and we have found that a well-placed image or quote can not only serve as a reminder of how important our work is, but can also provide a nugget of motivation or perspective at just the right time.

What about you? What stories inspire your business or company to excel?
