Many of TEQ’s medical technology customers have ‘Essential Business’ status and are playing a key role in preparing and responding to the crisis. Because of this, TEQ is committed to helping fight against COVID-19.
One of the medical devices we manufacture is ThermoscanTM ear thermometer probe covers. These covers are critical to safely taking patients temperature’s when trying to diagnose them with COVID-19. Due to the overwhelming demand of these covers, we seemed to be struggling to make enough. However, adding a new production line could take up to 10 months; too late!
As the sole supplier of this product to the world market, we knew we needed to step up and meet the world-wide shortage due to COVID-19. We decided we needed to take a drastic approach to solving this problem. We are now working around the clock to take an existing production line out of one of our cleanroom work cells to be reconfigured to run the Thermoscan ear thermometer covers. Part of the project involves TEQ’s machinery partner expediting special automation equipment that will be air freighted from Germany into O’Hare International. Air freighting heavy machinery is expensive, but we are saving critical time. As the machine is being reconfigured, we will construct a brand new cleanroom around and over the machine.
Through all these efforts, we hope to take a project from 10 months down to 12 weeks, as well as have a new production line and a 4th production shift in a brand new clean room. Hopefully in 12 weeks, we’ll be on our way to keeping up with the demand of these products. This project, along with a few other improvements, will increase TEQ’s capacity from 1.5 billion to 2.6 billion units per year.
And since TEQ is considered an “Essential Business” globally, TEQ can continue to provide a shorter supply chain, with all packaging products coming from its state-of-the-art cleanrooms based in both the UK and Poland as well.
Built and commissioned by pharmaceutical cleanroom experts, TEQ’s facilities in Nottingham and Poznan are certified to ISO 13485. Both sites meet medical device and pharmaceutical manufacturers’ most rigorous packaging requirements.
TEQ’s packaging range includes procedure sets, trays, tubs, lids and sterile barrier blisters and seal blisters. The company also manufactures custom thermoformed handling trays, including dry powder inhalers, auto-injectors, injection-molded components, pre-filled syringes and pharmaceutical bottles.
